It is no surprise Tawny Frogmouth’s are one of Australia’s most loved birds – voted runner-up in the Guardian/BirdLife Australia bird of the year poll 2020.
My big painting of two baby Tawny’s took 10 weeks to create. The detail and variety of tones in the feathers became a much loved time consuming obsession.
As the two kids morphed and characterised onto the canvas they adopted the names of Sparky and Gus. Sparky on watch and Gus contemplating their future.
