Splendid Fairywrens don’t need to be dressed in their courtship colours to be spectacular. It is no wonder they are such popular little birds.
They can be very shy and elusive. I have spent hours trying to catch a glimpse of these little beauties as they flit in and out of the garden shrubs and the sun catches their fluorescent turquoise plumage.
Either in full courtship plumage or between breeding seasons Splendid Fairy- wrens are a “Precious” sight.
Native to Australia there are three different varieties of the Splendid Fairywrens. The species inhabits shrub lands and shrubby woodlands in arid and semi-arid locations. Where the varieties meet they breed with each other.
Thank you to photographer Peter Caddy for graciously providing the reference photo as inspiration for this painting.
