Introducing “Murphy the Optimist” he is considering his future by practicing the art of contemplation. A pastime these birds are so famously renowned for perfecting.
Murphy was painted whilst enjoying an extended winter stay in Croatia. He helped with the optimistic wait for the sun to shine through the dull winter clouds. His optimism was successful, the day I finished his last feather the sun shone.
“May his optimism make the sun shine where ever he goes”.
As an Australian Realistic Bird Artist I am always looking for interesting subjects to paint. The Tawny Frogmouth is a species of bird native only to Australia. When it comes to interesting characters Murphy definitely fits the bill. He is an optimistic contemplator and a master of camouflage. These birds hide inside the branches of trees and are sometimes very hard to see. They are also nocturnal and quite often mistaken for an owl.
Thank to bird life photographer Rebecca Harrison for graciously providing the reference photo as inspiration for this oil painting.
