Gouldian Finches are considered the world’s most beautiful finch. Also known as the Gould’s Finch or the Rainbow Finch these colourful birds truly stand out in Australia’s avian landscape.
Endemic to the northern part of Australia Gouldian Finches are incredibly social. You’ll often find them in tropical savannahs, thickets, and woodlands near water sources in mixed finch flocks of up to 2,000 birds, except during mating season.
An interesting fact – The Gouldian Finch can have three different facial colours:
Both males and females have black, green, yellow, and red markings. However, females have slightly duller plumage. You can distinguish them by looking at their breasts: males have a vibrant purple breast, while females have a lighter mauve colour.
