What’s not to love about a smiling Carnaby Black – Cockatoo lovingly painted in oils.
These beautiful birds are unique to the Southwest of Western Australia and regular much welcomed visitors to our property in Margaret River. We often see them fly over which is generally considered an indicator that it is going to rain. They also arrive in flocks to consume the seeds and green gum nuts from our Eucalyptus trees.
We are always in awe of their size, they are a big cockatoo.
Very sadly the Carnaby Black – Cockatoo is classified as endangered due to the loss and fragmentation of their preferred habitats. Let’s hope with the assistance of conservation programs we can preserve these beautiful birds for future generations to come.
This paining is in memory of birdlife photographer Mark Molinari who graciously provided the reference photo used as inspiration for this oil painting.
