Red-tailed Black Cockatoos are truly a spectacle to see and much welcomed visitors to our rural property in Margaret River, Western Australia. These beautiful cockatoos traditionally arrive during springtime when the Eucalypt trees are in flower to sit amongst the gum leaves and consume the seeds and green gum nuts from our native trees.
As visitors they never fail to impress announcing their arrival with loud gregarious conversations which always excites us to run out of the house to view their magnificence and enjoy their company.
Very sadly the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo is classified as endangered due to the loss and fragmentation of their preferred habitats. Lets hope with the assistance of conservation programs we can preserve these beautiful birds for future generations to come.
Thank to wildlife photographer Keith Lightbody for graciously providing the reference photo used as inspiration for this oil painting.
