“Spirit Bird” is oil painting of a male Willy Wagtail. He is distinctive by his white eyebrow which is not just a fashion statement – it helps him attract a mate.
The Willie Wagtail holds excellent spiritual meaning! Its black and white feathers signify the balance between darkness and light. Its song is said to bring harmony and connection. In Aboriginal culture, this bird is seen as a messenger from the spirit world. It is admired for its adaptability, thriving in many places, like urban and remote areas.
It is no wonder Willy Wagtails are much loved regular sights in Australian gardens and parklands. Their name has been derived from their habit of waging their tails when foraging. Willy Wagtails are also known for their energetic movements, territorial behaviour and constant chatter which has given them the reputation of being the neighbourhood gossip’s.
