Painted in oils “Macca” is an adult male Green Rosella endemic to Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands.
He is an addition to my expanding collection of Australian Rosellas. The beauty and variation of colours these birds display is breath taking.
Green Rosella’s are Australia’s largest Rosella growing up to 36cm in length. One look at these beautiful creatures and you will have no doubts that they are unimaginably endearing. Their blue cheeks find continuity in the blue feathers that are scattered in the plumage, and the yellow bellies are the perfect contrast to their dark green body.
Huge thank you and acknowledgement to photographer Janelle Walker for graciously providing the reference photo used as inspiration for this oil painting.
