As a Birdlife Artist how could I not give recognition to two delicate, striking, Silvereye friends. I have sat and watched these beautiful tiny birds camouflaging themselves in green foliage whilst flitting here and there catching insects and feeding on nectar.
Silvereyes are one of Australia’s smallest birds. They have a conspicuous ring of white feathers around their eyes and show beautiful olive green plumage that turns a fluorescent green when caught by the sun.
Silvereyes never seem to sit still. They display enormous amounts of energy preying on inspects and feeding on large amounts of fruit nectar. As pairs these little birds defend a small territory, build cup nests out of neatly woven grasses and lay eggs that are a bluish green.
Thank you to wildlife photographer Richard Semark for graciously providing the reference photo.
